Taking into account that SLIC and VIOS can be loaded into a USB3 drive I've
seen no reason to config a DVD with any of the P8/9 systems we've sold. If
I need to load anything that comes in DVD into an LPAR I take an image and
upload to virtual catalog (and a copy goes to the fileserver, usually).
Maybe it's just a need to learn a new way of doing things?

Best Regards,

Roberto

Both our P9's came with the USB cable and DVD.

We only used these for installing VIOS. All IBM i (and AIX) lpars are
guested from an lpar of IBM i. That lpar of IBM i was running only on
disk in an expansion unit. It really was as simple as unplugging the
expansion unit from the P8 and plugging it into the P9. Sure I did a full
system save beforehand but I did not have to do any restore.
Helps that we had recently moved our Hosting lpars from disk (and
enclosures) which weren't going to be supported on P9.
