One thing I've found that bypasses a lot of interface design on the
"i" is creating my own commands. User interface? Check!
Prompting? Check! Consistent User Interface? Check! Even help
screens! No messing with display files and Screen Design Aid!


I do like very much the ability on the IBM i to create your own
commands and use panel groups for built-in context-sensitive help. On the
mainframe I had to write my own help designer and generator in order to
get built-in context-sensitive help for all of our on-line screens.
