Don,
Before PDF's, I used a one sided copier and reversed each page manually to do the 2nd side to copy every manual we had. I cannot tell you how happy my wife was to finally get rid of the 10' stack which we moved at least 5 times during my early career.

Jim, you may remember that you could sign up for IBM Redbooks. Hard copy.
The sign up allowed you to select the categories or areas of interest.
One customer that I worked with a lot I advised them of this option - he
ticked every possible option!!
A few days later he received a message there was a delivery from IBM - He
was puzzled, even more puzzled when advised they needed a fork lift to
unload the delivery!!!
There were two pallets fully loaded and wrapped of IBM Red books
I wish I still had the photos and one of the look on his face would have
been priceless.

Back in the V4 days I ordered a 170. Due to my then agreements with IBM
working on the Certifications, we got a P50 version of ALL the LPPs.
(Larry, aka DrFranken, was in on that too) A full PALLET of manuals showed
up. The software, a smaller box with about 100 CDs (no DVDs yet). Think
about the cost of producing, packaging, and shipping all of that. Glad
IBM
stopped that and put that money into the OS instead. Thing was when we
loaded all that software up, the four drives on that system were about 70%
full. (Small drives by comparison to today) That's what led Larry and
me
to create the first "Frankeni" at the COMMON conference in Indianapolis.
At
one point I think we had 30 drives running on that single tower unit.
Pictures of all of that might still be available on Frankeni.com......

I didn't tell you how many I kept. Only how many I dumped. :)

I donated most of the empty binders in a timely fashion. Kept a dozen

I dumped at least 50 IBM 3-ring binders (all empty) this past Monday.
Don't know why I've been keeping them the past 10+ years.

How long ago was that? I don't remember the last time I saw an IBM
manual!
I think we have several of the -binders- around, but the contents
were outdated around v6!

When I found people were limiting their development to what could be
found
in the paper manuals I removed them all after hours and inserted
them
into
the dumpster.
Infocenter has a "What's New" section and even each section
(languages, Db2, etc) have their own "What's new" sections. And
they are updated at TR, or group, or on a whim.
