Good News Everybody!

A new search engine is coming soon.

As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I've used this data area in the past but as it is just data anything can be put in there(i have no idea what relies on it).

I recall in the v5 days I was attempting to install mysql from zend.
It was saved to V5r2 but the install docs said it needed v5r4.
that install looked at the data area, so I changed it and got it installed.

YMMV

I'm also in a shop where the developers don't have authority to DSPPTF - that's why I mentioned using the data area, since I have never heard that someone with command line access is blocked from seeing the contents.

So DSPDTAARA QSS1MRI gives you the VRM - AND it gives you the language code - like 2924 on a US machine. The data area is, after all, giving you information about the MRI - machine-readable information.

And RCVDTAARA is all you need in a CL program - or a couple easy ways to get it in RPG.

Cheers

I can confirm someone else's comment that DSPPTF is blocked in some shops.
I remember looking at an RPG compiler listing to find the version/release
in that scenario.
