:)  I'm all for APIs - getting stuff from a data area, though, is kind of old school, everyone can be comfortable with it.

So DSPDTAARA QSS1MRI gives you the VRM - AND it gives you the language code - like 2924 on a US machine. The data area is, after all, giving you information about the MRI - machine-readable information.

And RCVDTAARA is all you need in a CL program - or a couple easy ways to get it in RPG.
