So Vern, the API is too easy and more complete, so don't use it?

If you are using a program anyway I don't see the utility in the data area.

From the command line, DSPSWFRSC is a *PUBLIC command (as delivered)

So DSPDTAARA QSS1MRI gives you the VRM - AND it gives you the language code - like 2924 on a US machine. The data area is, after all, giving you information about the MRI - machine-readable information.

And RCVDTAARA is all you need in a CL program - or a couple easy ways to get it in RPG.
