The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
I'll comment to each part in separate emails to assist with threading.

And again, if, say, I installed 7.3 and came to the data center with
image(s) of my 7.1 server, where are the collision points in restoring to
the higher level?
Just SAVSECDTA and the various libraries used on the system? Restore QGPL
to some other name and gingerly move individual objects across?
Or is it better to install from the saved image as 7.1 and do an upgrade?

This would count as a "migration". And, actually, is not uncommon. One
does have to keep in mind though that you're no longer on an AS/400.
You're running IBM i. And there are so many dependencies in various
stream files, etc. For example, take a look at:
https://wiki.midrange.com/index.php/Change_IP_Address
Which, since you're moving locations, may have it's own benefit.
Here's a book which talks about moving a 7.1 system to a 7.3 system. Sound
familiar?

Look for "Previous release to current release support".
This can save a BUNCH of time normally used for initializing drives, etc
upon restore.
