TS3100 supports LTO9. Firmware of course needs to be current. I would
question if V7R1 and the E4A supports it. That's almost too new for the
drivers to be available in V7R1. Remember support went out on that before
LTO9 came out. Maybe it will but call me skeptical

There are a limit to how far some of the existing libraries may go. But I
don't think James is hot to trot to get to LTO9. I think LTO5 is probably
the sweet spot for those servicing several clients with servers on aging
hardware.
Perhaps I'm being a bit crass but I would think it's the customer's
responsibility to upgrade from anything older than that. After all, you are
talking about supporting x-4 here already.

A TS3100/TS3200 with the highest LTO compatible with your E4A would be a
good choice, fiber or SAS.

Once you upgrade your hardware, you could keep your library, simply
upgrade the drives to a newer LTO.

With a worn out DAT160 backup tape on our production box, I went looking
for replacement media.

And I discovered that DAT160 is considered an obsolete format, with
availability limited to stock on hand.

Given that we have a rack-mountable E4A, with a DAT160 drive for backup,
can anybody suggest any long-term options?
