No, I'd say 45 second launch is not typical. iACS is Java, so it's slower than the older PC5250, but it shouldn't be that much slower. I'd hope that a new laptop would have the CPU to run it pretty fast. On my 2013 vintage PC, first session takes about 10 seconds and subsequent sessions about 1 second.

We keep template HOD (session) and KMP (keyboard) files on our NetServer. During PC setup, we copy them to the local PC and point the session to use the local KMP file. The user is then free to customize at will.

Subject: New ACS - Slow Startup & Loses Settings

I recently was issued a new laptop with ACS installed. When it comes to emulators I'm just a user but I'm one of the first ACS installs here and our help desk hasn't been much help yet.

We're on v7r3 and ACS 1.1.7.2

Slow startup - about 45 seconds for the first emulator to get to the login screen. Much quicker with subsequent - as quick as 10 seconds. Is this typical? What might be slowing it down so much?

Lost settings - I set Appearance > Preferences > Color and View and save them. They're good until I shut all the emulator sessions down and start up the first one. It resets all the .HOD objects for each of the LPARs. Resets the keyboard mappings also which has caused my co-worker to go back to the previous emulator.

I tried researching this but have found much information about installing ACS remotely but nothing about my situation.

TIA

Jack
