That you can ping does NOT mean that networking is working as it should.
I spent half a day trying to find out why a brand new vHMC wouldn't work
until I downloaded the VM into my notebook and hooked it directly to the
server. The problem? Networking guys had an ACL restricting traffic between
IPs in the same VLAN, not PING mind you but other traffic...
Maybe your networking guys are doing something like that? just one badly
configured ACL in all the points between the HMC and the machine and down
goes the link.

Firewall yes, more likely a routing problem with the network.Rob: Do
make sure the cables are plugged in where you expect them to be. More than
once I've had customers tell me they plugged into #1 Ethernet (ETH0 on the
HMC) only to find out they really put it into #3 (Eth2) since the layout of
