This message is an attempt to summarize my understanding rather than reply
individually to a number of others.

If you return to the original post in this thread, it asks about sending
email directly from IBM i, without using a relay. However, most of the
replies are from people who espouse using 3rd party relays, whether that be
Google, Office 365, Yahoo, Message Labs, Barracuda, or whomever.

If you've been issued credentials from your provider, and are authorized to
use their relay service, that's fine. That's just not what the original
question was about, which was confusing to me.
