Yes, In this particular case it might be possible. in fact they are having
a crash course on release hopping right now since we gave them an 810 with
v5r2 to try and restore (they didn't have op21 backups, but all software is
homegrown and the programmer insisted he could compile everything from
scratch if needed). But yes, there are lots of details when doing a
migration from so long ago and unfortunately not being a software guy (not
even sys-admin guy, just vios, hardware, base OS install) I can't help much
with them but I read most of the threads here on migration woes and have an
inkling of the stuff to look for.
