They were still using v4r3 and old COBOL and RPG. As long as those
programs
migrate without much problems they could use a smaller, cooler machine.

the key words, which may very well disqualify the action is "migrate
without much problems"...

I concur. yesterday I went to see a new customer that had a dead AS400
(yes, a model 150 with only 2 drives and not mirrored). They have the same
software (with upgrades done by a consulting programmer) that they
originally wrote for that machine and they had no need for more. They are a
prime candidate por the IBMini that the IT Jungle article mentions. They

The customer base exists, whether they finally make it or not is a
different tune. Even the express edition machines are hard to sell in this
country, especially to those kind of shops that are so small and have so
little need for iron that the only reason for upgrading is a hardware
failure or an SSL algorithm mismatch...

Let me tell you about my first hardware upgrade. In '03 we replaced a

vintage AS/400. During that six year period, I'd say we had single digit

Will the new system be right for me? Maybe, maybe not. But for those
people in this discussion with 5 or less users, almost certainly.

I guess just curious. A lot of people think people will just gobble
stuff
up but it's not right for them. You're right, I know it's not right for
me. I just wondered if people thought it would be right for people like
you and whether or not you thought it really would be right for you.
