It was up for a while, now down again.
Our network folks claim DNS will never fail, we have three.
But I don't think they every thought that DNS could fail due to DOS
attacks.
DNS is a necessary evil, but if IPs were used instead, production would
still be up.

And according to one of the big tent speakers at ZendCon this week we can
look forward to 100,000,000,000 IoT devices on line by 2020. Yes that is
MANY for every man woman and child on the planet.
*I* will add that the vast majority of them will be run by crappy buggy or
at the least insecure software and hooked together in a botnet capable of
such a massive DDOS attack as to disable even the ability to tell them to
stop. Literally potential to take down the entire internet there.
We have already seen multiple Tb level DDOS attacks. Yes that's a Terabit.
That's yuuuuuuuge!
And yet another speaker warned against code practices that took too long
because your competition is working faster than you. Not a word about
coding for security even in the session on security.
On a slightly brighter note the number of CVEs is down over the last two
years for the first time in a decade. That's good but on the chart I didn't
see 'thermostats' 'refrigerators' 'light bulbs' etc as categories of
affected devices....

It appears that Dyn (a MAJOR DNS provider) is currently being hit withDDos attacks. The DNS problems appear to be Internet Wide and may not even
be a PTD issue. Dyn is still mitigating the issue. The attack according
to their website is affecting mainly Eastern US. Here is the update
posted frim them.

Anyone experiencing DNS failures?
Our Internet provider is stating it is an external issue.
Thank You
