The host name and domain is defined correctly with a corresponding host
name entry in the host table.
IBM picked up the problem from the SMTP trace, that the host entries used

by the SMTP server does not
match the TCP Host table entries. One character in the host name is
incorrect changed from a 'Z' to an 'a'.

Deleted and recreated the local host table entry and have the same result.

What's in CFGTCP option 12 for host and domain?

when you say it resolves to "xxx" where are you performing the PING/etc?
Your IBM i? A PC? Both?

The restore was done without any errors and we have have checked the

IBM just responded indicating that the translation of the host table
entries are correct.
The host table entry has the host name configured as 'mycompany.ZA.COM'
but the mail
server resolves to 'mycompany.aA.COM'

Still investigating

Thank you

Are you sure all the directory entries are correct? Also depending on
how
the system was recovered, you might have an issue with the logical files
in
QGPL/QUSRSYS. I'd go out and look to see if you have any of the
'ABCDEV0001' type file names on logicals indicating there was an issue
with
the restore. I've seen that problem even with very experienced admins.

Long shot but it might provide some insight.

Hi ROb.

I have tested the mail by performing the Telnet but to the SMTP port 25.
Outgoing mail is working perfectly.
Sending mail to an user id on the IBMi system is where the problem is.
Both from external and from the internal telnet session.

Will wait for IBM to respond.

Thank you

Good idea to contact IBM.

You might also want to try the email troubleshooting steps at the
knowledge
center.

If it's accessible from the internet you may want to try
http://www.zmailer.org/mxverify-cgi.html

You could try these steps from a Windows DOS command prompt telnet
myibmi
21
This tells you to telnet into your IBM i on port 21 (email) Enter in
this
command RSET It should echo back
250 flushed
Then enter this command
MAIL FROM:<postmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
It should echo back
250 OK
Then enter this command
RCPT TO:<postmaster@xxxxxxxxx>
It should echo back
250 OK
Now you know you're connecting pretty good.
At this point I normally enter
QUIT

Hi All.

We have failed over from Production to the DR server as part of our
annual

testing and are experiencing mail problems on the DR server.
The DR server is a identical copy of the Production server as we used
the
same backup to restore both systems when moving over to the
new Power 8 hardware.

All outgoing email is working properly but no incoming email is
processed.

SMTP configuration is identical on both servers as well as all
the directory entries. When external email is send to the IBMi sever do
you get a non-delivery notification and noting is written to the mail
box on the IBMi server. (/QTCPTTM/MAIL/'user id')

I have send SMTP trace logs to IBM on a open PMR but we have no solution
as yet.

Have anybody had such a problem?

Kind regards

Riaan
