Are you using Jumbo (> 1500 byte) frames in your network? It has not been supported in the past though I see on Page 6 an option there to indicate 9000 byte frames. This stopped me the first few tries. It's the Ethernet line on the HOST partition with the TFTP and NFS Server that's important.

What LIC level do you have loaded on the NFS Server/TFTP Server? That is what version are you attempting to install on the E4A?

The 2838 isn't supported for this. Must be a GbE Card such as 5706.
Also note you must be cabled to port T1. That is required as only the TOP (T1) Port on any Ethernet card is supported for this.

In the doco It says:
CHGAUT OBJ('/catalog_directory/BOOTP') USER(QTFTP) DTAAUT(*RX) SUBTREE(*ALL)

I instead do:
CHGAUT OBJ('/catalog_directory') USER(QTFTP) DTAAUT(*RX) SUBTREE(*ALL)

I Like the PING Test but in my experience no PINGs will respond until the LIC is loaded.

I have done MANY of these and in virtually every single case where it fails the problem is the network configuration.

Hi all,

we want to install several Power6 E4A boxes using network install as
described in

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/pdfs/redp4937.pdf

We tried every possible network adapter (4 internal LHEA, one 2838 in
expansion box 0595) - no chance. The TFTP server does not see any
activity, the client IP address set as on page 6 does not respone to a
PING.

When we install LIC from DVD and try to do the rest from Network, at
least the STS adapter will answer to a PING, but still - no TFTP
activity. Asks to insert next DVD media :(

I remember we managed to do so some months ago using the same hardware
setup and same process - cannot imagine any difference.

Disclaimer:
- yes, cables plugged :)
- prerequisites met (at least as they are stated in the redbook)

Thanks for any hint (i assume it is some small tick)
