I am quite pleased that IBM is putting this stuff out there. I am
slightly surprised that they're not making more noise about it,
though. I wonder if they don't realize the gravity of what they're
doing. I mean, these open source steps may seem small and
inconsequential to IBM, and maybe in the end they will be just that.
But they have the potential to (a) draw folks in from outside the
insular midrange world, and (b) expose insular midrange folks to
technology from the outside.

To me, 5733-OPS is a much, much bigger deal than any kind of
"modernization" of the RPG language.

Interesting. A Python 2.7, even after they've already put out a 3.4.
