We did have the UPS cabled to the UPS monitoring port in the past.
Unfortunately, that caused a few problems of its own.
I've heard people speak of such woes. Perhaps it's time to revisit what
issues you had vs the issue you had last and see what is the lesser of two
evils. Or, even to resolve what issues you were having in the past.
Or attach the UPS to a PC that can then initiate shutdown on IBM i.
