If you do not do a RCLDDMCNV, the communication link between the two systems will remain active. You can logon to the other system and track you job down. It will be one of the jobs in subsystem QUSRWRK if it's running. Look at the job log in that job for failure reasons.

The biggest issue may be authority to the objects you are using. The logs should show you that detail.

You will need authority given to the user in the xxxSVRAUTE command to the objects on the remote system.

In my instance, my user id and passwords are identical on both liars (usually) making it easy.

Are you sure? A coworker of mine said she needed our admin to set
something up for her before she could get DDM to work (though she had
been using FTP with no problems prior to that). Now, I don't know if

In my case, I absolutely did not have the knowledge. With the
information in this thread, I have just now been able to get an RPG
program on one LPAR to read and update a file on a different LPAR
using a DDM file wrapped in a CL (for the OPNDBF and OVRDBF commands).

At this point, I still don't know what our admin did, so I still don't
know if what he did for my coworker is what allowed my test to work
just now, or if I could have always done this same test even before he
did his thing.

It's simple. Use command CRTDDMF and F4. Enter the file name and library, system name and connection type, *IP.

You can read, write and update the target file.

In my opinion, it's not as simple as you make it sound. I can't just
treat the unadorned DDMF as though it were a PF or table. Now *that*
would be simple. But I suppose it's simple enough the way it is.

So yeah, DDM is an option.
