Yes. And to answer Henrik's question yes I believe FTP would stop as well
as distribution services etc.
You can still crash the system without taking action, but the system values
allow you to get out in front of it.

QSTGLOW* system values allow you to see and control other stuff?
And, be careful to take in mind how you shut down stuff. But don't be so
paranoid that you do nothing and just let the disk fill up.
