When I prepare to replace these batteries I bring a VERY Large Channel lock pliers and a small metal bar (such as 3/16 keystock). This allows the pliers to grip AND BEND the plastic retainer which has by now hardened to the point where it will stay put during a fall off a 100 ft cliff!

Doing it wrong can actually break the RAID card itself, that's expensive.

520 CEC batteries are the standard NIMH batteries, they do not swell and
they always require a shutdown for replacement. they are the kind of
battery that make you question whoever designed the card since removing the
clip that holds'em is a tricky question and somebody might break the card
doing it (i think no traces go thru that area but...).
It's an easy task for an experienced CE and DIYers.
Regarding the QSECOFR access, remember that the DST qsecofr can reset the
OS's qsecofr password, if you perchance have that one, you might be able to
walk somebody thru the DST menues to rest it...

At a former job I've replaced cache batteries. We got some at Batteries
Plus - they work but don't have the heat sensor connection, if I recall
correctly.

This can depend on which card you have - once you have that card

number,

you can google for it and get info on which battery pack to use - then
google THAT number, see what it looks like - if it looks like 3 AA

cells

wrapped up in plastic, you can do the thing at BatteriesPlus.

Otherwise,

eBay can be your friend - or do the google to find vendors with
new-old-stock.

You have probably been quoted IBM off-maintenance prices - you can
certainly do better than that on older hardware such as this.

Some of these packs are hard to get out - remember to bring your
ChannelLock pliers - hey, I'm only just barely kidding!

Not my responsibility. I was asked to try to determine when a

backup

was performed. I think IBM is doing the battery - somebody wanted

know if there was a good backup. Data area QSAVSYS showed last save

done on a system over athousand miles away, when they have somebody

When cache battery was replaced at my location, it was quick. Of
course, at my site, it was only at warning level. No idea how long
it has been failed at remote site. Possibly several years.
