Frankly the fact that you 'may' go with a SAN at some untold date in the
future is no reason to host disk for IBM i from VIOS.
Tried VIOS hosting disk for IBM i. Just not recommended for internal
disk.
All this is just my humble opinion of course.

Subject: VIOS Disk Sizes
Sent by: "MIDRANGE-L" <midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>
We finally received our Power8. We it with VIOS as the Primary OS and
ordered 146GB drives for the CEC and 300GB drives for the EXP24s.. Down
the
road we 'may' go with a SAN so the VIOS now even with internal disk.
As I went to install VIOS I was looking for the 'two' 146GB drives to
install on. What the system shows is a pair of 133GB drives. The 300GB
drives are reporting in as 270GB drives.
Can someone Enlighten ms as why with a straight out of the box fresh from
IBM system, I have lost 10% of my disk space? I thought with VIOS I would
be getting the advertised GB at least at this stage..
