Think of how you would migrate from VIOS internal disk to SAN.
You would add the disk to VIOS, create new storage spaces for IBM i.
Migrate from one to the other using SST and/or DST (providing you didn't
want to go the unload/reload route).
Or continue to use both.

How is that any easier than migrating from an IBM i hosting lpar to SAN
under VIOS?
And there's still nothing stopping you from having that guest lpar having
some of the disk hosted by IBM i and some hosted by SAN on VIOS. If you
choose to.

If it doesn't make it any easier then why deal with the performance loss,
sector issues, etc? And, since it's some untold date in the future and it
will be VIOS san versus VIOS internal it's not like the knowledge gained
will be 100% useful, or retained.
