You don't/can't connect via USB. The Power7/Power8 servers have 2 serial
ports ( S1 and S2 on the back, but you can't directly use those ports.
Power Systems ( AS/400 and iSeries too ) use an OPEN/CLOSE circuit
connection to signal the system the status of the UPS. Some APC units
support a card to provide that type of signalling. On the Server side there
is special cable that when used tells the server to use the port as an UPS
Port.

( the UPS is made by CyberPower. purchased at Costco. $90. I had tried an
APC UPS rated at 550W. Did not hold when I powered up the 720. )
