Yeah, but i suffer any time i have to use one of these new "interfaces"
that make me slower than a snail. From missing keyboard shortcuts to badly
programmed tab jumps to stuff that can only be done by mouse clicks.
UI designers don't realize that you CAN make it sparkle but functional at
the same time...
Moving from a blackberry to my current android phone made me LESS efficient
due to the lack of tactile response on the keyboard, but it's shiny and so
it must be good...

Granted, I had to unplug my external keyboard and mouse and store it
under
my desk to get used to it
I hate that my second laptop has a misfunctioning keyboard and I have
to
use an external keyboard. What a pain!

An expert 5250 user does not want to touch the mouse. The web
interface
can be used with keyboard alone, even if that is hard for users
without
5250 experience.

this is a misunderstanding of GUI, most of the time a GUI user will
have
his/hers mouse in his/hers right
hand it is much more efficient to use the TAB that requires the left
hand

The expert user will be happy if the web interface has a javascript
that
emulates the behavior of the 5250, for example: capture the + key
and
send
the cursor to the next field, instead of the normal web action that
the
+
appears at the end of the number...

Even thick client interfaces will make the expert users mad. It's

just about the speed either

I installed a nice Windowsy interface for one guy and he couldn't
see
it
no matter how big we made the font.
He was using client access and had his sessions full screen in a
1280x800
monitor. He also was best friends with the owner of the company
so
when he
complained we all heard about it.

I can't remember the name of those data entry stations that used
to
write
data to 8" diskettes..

But anyhow some of those "gals" were amazing - as you say keying
two
pages
in advance...

I'd like to see how that works on a web-app if at all..!!!

PS..I've found it if you want to be nostalgic..

Does "type ahead" work good?
We have an order entry gal that keys 1 or 2 screens ahead.
She's
quick.
