Subject says it all. I have a 4230 printer that is currently has
twinax, serial and parallel ports. The new 720 can't talk twinax so we
either ditch the printer or:
1) Get a IP to Twinax converter (not worth the money...)
2) Connect the printer to a PC using a parallel cable and use a printer
emulation session to connect to the i. (haven't tried this yet but it
looks promising)
3) Connect the parallel port on the printer to a print server and use
TCP/IP to print to it.
Option 3 is what I am wondering about. Could I create a printer device
description that would basically do what option 2 would do? That is,
send a printer stream to the print server that would correctly output
the print job?
Looks like the only option with *LAN and *IP is a 3812 model 1. But
maybe I need to use *RMT or *VRT ? I guess what I am asking to start
with is, has anyone used a print server attached printer with their IBM
i? What is the best approach? Can you point me to some examples to get
me started?
Thanks.
