Just as much fun are those nice, flat Ethernet cables. We had a bunch festooned behind the server racks, with the excess length forming loops on the floor. I had to walk behind the racks.

The loops will lie with the skinny end up. If you step on the cable, it will tilt the loop up, so when you take your next step you take the loop, and whatever it's attached to, with you. I just unplugged a cable.

There were so many places to plug in a cable, I just walked (quickly) to the network room and told them I'd unplugged a cable. I think they had already noticed that something was wrong... But they knew where to plug it back in.

So don't step on loops of Ethernet cable lying on the floor!
