Hi Dave -

Our tech folks are starting to roll out 64-bit Windows 7 PC's with the
iSeries Access emulator, version 5.9. They have set them up with the
workstation-id to use the computer name and have checked the checkbox
"avoid duplicate names on this workstation". There is a single desktop
icon that they use to open up one or more sessions. The system adds a
letter to the end of the workstation id to create the session name. The
problem is that it's not re-using device names when they close and re-open
a session. I have also found that the system shows that each one is still
at "signon screen" instead of "varied on". Still, if I vary off/on the
devices it won't re-use them. We are on V5R4. Thoughts?

The newer versions of the emulator have an additional "avoid" setting
(besides "avoid duplicate names on this workstation" and "avoid
duplicate names with other workstations") which may take care of this
problem. I can't tell you what exactly it is called, because it's a
newer version of the emulator than I have installed. But with "avoid
duplicate names on this workstation" and the new "avoid" option both
checked, there is a number added after the letter that gets added.
