Most default print files are set up at 10 CPI, 6 LPI, 132 characters wide by 66 lines tall. That fits nicely on old 14 x 11 greenbar paper. When laser printers came around, somebody invented *COR (Computer Output Rotation/Reduction) to make 132 x 66 fit on 8.5 x 11 paper in landscape orientation. Look at your printer file definitions and I'll bet you see orientation(*COR).

To change fonts on SCS reports, change the CPI or LPI on the print file. And change the paper size and orientation, if you like. The print writer will do it's best to find a font that meets those metrics. Note that this is a "fixed pitch" font. To open up to variable spacing, you need to start developing your own printer files.

Subject: Re: Picking a font

I may have stated my problem incorrectly.

I need to print a greenbar report on a Xerox printer. The default is to squeeze the print down to fit letter size paper. The printer has a tray with legal size paper in it. I have the tray selected. But, the font is still intended to fi letter size. On CRTDEVPRT, there is a parameter named FONT. The value I have always seen is 11. But, I am needing something to change so the font scales up to fit the page. I am thinking I need to do that with OVRPRTF, to get pagesize and lines per page correct. On further thought, maybe there is nothing I need to do with the device description, since other components will need to be changed.

If my revised thinking is correct, it isn't an issue.

Should have thought twice before posting, I believe.

Doesn't that assume you have the AFP font collection library ?

Hi John
I asked this very question not too long ago and Luke answered for me
Hers the response On my system (V6R1), I have a library called
'RDFONT01V5'.  Inside that is an app that will print your font samples for you!

The app I ran was PRTFNTC (Print Font Catalog).  I believe that it
prints *immediately* to your default printer...so...be ready!  :)

I know it because Charles Wilt answered this very same question for me back in February (thanks, btw!) .  You can still find the thread in the archives, but the link to IBM's reference page is broken now.

I then answered with
Hi Luke
I googled PRTFNTC RDFONT01V5 and found the instructions at
ftp://ftp.kcs.net/Common/printing/InstallRDFONT.txt
