When we moved the "primary" systems to our main plant they took our
generator. This generator could run our entire building, lights, A/C,
Well, all. We actually have the far bigger UPS as it is believed that the
other UPS should only have to last long enough for the generator to kick
in.

Boss does want connection to the UPS. He doesn't care if I use the power
warning cable (which used to be easy on AS/400's) or if I somehow connect
to our SNMP server that the UPS communicates to. Both locations should
check this.. Turns out that back when the generator was here we had a
test fail because there's a little 9V battery in that generator that needs
to be changed periodically. Some sort of controlling function it does. We
now follow the same schedule you're supposed to with 9V batteries in smoke
alarms.
