I've seen state tax audits (aircraft fuel industry) that have easily been 5-7 years back. The regulatory requirement is there to be able to produce the detail that backs up a tax filing - I imagine the states are searching for funds...
This includes auditing of sites that were purchased, merged onto newer systems, and the old system is only queried for historical data. Several audits per year... Get about 30 days to produce the detail.
I do keep an old model 600 system in my office just to run the old S36 conversion tool when needed(been a few years since last). Plugged to ups, but not powered up - do power up once every yr or so with no problems.
I do know of 15 yr old systems running every day.

was, primarily, a tobacco products wholesaler. I haven't seen that many
regulations since I worked on a nuclear plant site. ....
