In the Xerox case, the setup requires the user/pwd to be in the Xerox
control panel config, and not an entry & scan time.
We are planning on a new profile just for this purpose, so the home dir
for that profile should do it.
There does not seem to be a modifiable script.
The maint window is Sat & the box needs some ftp ptfs, so will try then.
Right now, from a desktop command prompt, the ftp logs on,
but the "put" hangs (v6r1).
Initial name format . . . . . . *PATH
Initial directory . . . . . . . *HOMEDIR
Initial list format . . . . . . *DFT
(Larry said this needs to be *unix to work & gave appropriate warning)
From other discussion-I have my own exit pgm in place and am looking
at the options.
Thanks for all the details.

But basically, back to the OP, I've no quarrel with the suggestion that
you use something besides ftp, like a share. But if you just have to use
ftp then you can set it up so that the log in used by that printer goes to
a specific library, or directory. Therefore you do not have to worry
about the inability of their ftp script to execute any commands like
quote site namefmt 1
cd ...
or any other commands.

Thanks for the sample. I think what I pasted below gets to the meat of
it.

# Or %Subst(UserID:1:1) = 'Q';
# AppInfoDS.NameFmt = 0;
# AppInfoDS.FileListFmt = 0;
# CurLib = 'SENDLIB';
# Else;
# AppInfoDS.NameFmt = 1;
# AppInfoDS.FileListFmt = 1;
# HomeDir = '/home/' + %Subst(UserID:1:UserIDLen);
# HomeDirLen = %Len(%Trim(HomeDir));
