Efficiency is referring to administering the system. And yes, it does.
Check out RLA vs SQL single record access. You don't get RLA without
having the OS/DB integrated. The benchmarks want to only compare SQL/SQL
but the majority if IO on the IBM i is still done via native IO.

I think the intangible costs that are missing is the key.

People who make purchase decisions have a hard time weighing intangibles.
Surely there must be some way to make them tangible. A number of studies

indicate that IBM i requires fewer people to administer. People are
tangible.
Maybe we need to keep reminding people to add people into the equation.

The efficiency of the integrated OS/DB gets minimized way too much.

It seems that DB efficiency would show up in benchmarks. Do they?
