Bob--

We have a mess of Okidata 321 (wide-carriage dot-matrix "screecher")
printers at various locations. This model has a 'standard' parallel
printer interface. We run them off of "CLI" (Computer Lab
International) boxes. The CLI boxes connect via Client Access on our
Ethernet network and have printer sessions that can use the parallel
printer port.

OkiData printers are in the $500 range, are extremely hard-working, hard
to kill, and cheap enough that you don't need a service contract-- if it
fails, buy a new one. Save the old one for a source of plastic parts--
that folks in warehouses seem to break or lose (don't ask me how!).

We have several of these printers in their 3rd location, still chugging
away. Well-suited for your 30 page-per-day volume!

If the 490N has an Ethernet connection, so much the better.
