A remote out queue should be your last choice.

You're much better off using the IPP or SNMP driver to talk to an ASCII printer.

Look here to determine if a printer support IPP or SNMP
http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/10aab18fc58a76b486256838006ae1e0/b44a2cf4ba778d83862568250053649f?OpenDocument

Note: SNMP driver requires support by both the printer and the print
server (internal or external). Whereas IPP support is only needed in
the print server. Thus you can always hook up a printer via IPP using
an external print server that supports IPP.

Update on the 4-part form printer:
1. The volume is very low, only about 30 forms per day.
2. Considering the volume, I am thinking about an Okidata MicroLine 490n.

Now my question is this: Will this printer work as a remote outq?  Are some
printers better suited to work with the iSeries than others?
