No point having to do 2 upgrades when 1 will do the job. Mixed release
migration is the go as Pete suggested.
In the V5R4 Backup and Recovery Manual it's Chapter 14, Release-to-Release
Support.
Previous Release-to-Current Release sounds like the required scenario.

No problem with the save files. However, I'd go with the latter solution.
Load V5R4M5 though instead of V5R4M0. This supports a wider variety of
hardware with no drawbacks from using it instead of V5R4M0.
