Has the cache battery become a customer install?
Customer's machine "phoned home" yesterday, and today IBM called customer
they were shipping the part....
If it is customer install, is it a big deal on a 520 Express tower (not
rack) box?

has been an IBM vs Customer Fix. A quick call to 800-IBM-SERV with the
pmr number from WRKPRB and the SRC should get you an answer.
To change it on a old 5xx there are '2' blue pushpin on the lower front
under the disks to pull the card and change the battery( just 1 battery )
On the newer Power6 (E4As) these batteries ( 2 total, 1 ea on 2 cards )
are accessed inside via the top or side cover )
If these are truly CRU then IBM will provide with at least a link to the
R&R procedures
BEFORE Pulling the cards be sure to use either DST or SST to fail the
batteries. This will make sure the write cache is flushed prior to
battery replacement and loss of that data when the battery is pulled.
Once the batteries have been failed in DST/SST on the older 5xx you must
power down cause you will be pulling the disk controller out of the
system. For the E4As I think these batteries can be swapped while the
system is up. Leave the batteries out for at least 5 min to make sure
the card knows the battery has been replaced and resets the power on
timer for the next replacement. Put things back together and IPL
