The batteries were so bad in the unit here that we had to power everything
off, then open up everything so that we could pry them out. The heat had
expanded the battery in such a way that this was the only way to replace
them.

When you do a

What does it show in "Type-Model"?

Can you tie it back into

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/powersys/v3r1m5/topic/iphcd/areb2battery.htm
which states:
Replacing this feature is a customer task. You can perform this task
yourself, or contact an authorized service provider to perform the task
for you. You might be charged a fee by the authorized service provider for
this service.

Pay close attention to the "Important:" section. I've heard a legend of a
CE who failed to do so. His picture is now posted by that companies front
door with "Do not let this man in the building." Apparently they didn't
like restoring all their data from backup.

Subject: Cache battery customer install?
Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Has the cache battery become a customer install?
Customer's machine "phoned home" yesterday, and today IBM called customer
they were shipping the part....
If it is customer install, is it a big deal on a 520 Express tower (not
rack) box?
