Almost all of the larger thin client vendors (and many of the smaller ones)
offer Linux based versions of their clients these days. IGEL, HP, Wyse,
10zig, etc...

Being used to how well the Linux thin clients can be managed and locked
down, we found the Embedded XP ones to be far harder to configure and
manage when we evaluated them.

Subject: Thin client or linux PC?

Hi everyone,

I have a customer who is interested in replacing their multiple Windows
PCs with a low maintenance solution. They want to trial using linux,
either with a thin client (such as an X terminal) connecting to an
existing linux server or with individual machines running linux. They
are
partial to thin clients for the low maintenance benefits, but other
people
I have talked to think that individual machines all running linux would
be
better. Could anyone with experience please give recommendations?

James Rich

if you want to understand why that is, there are many good books on
the design of operating systems. please pass them along to redmond
when you're done reading them :)
