Required parameters vs. positional parameters, was Re: An opinion please (ordering of command parameters)

Users have to either name the parameters or prompt (hopefully reading the prompts). If you keep the parameter names short, the extra typing isn't that bad.

But if I make parameters required in the source, the compiler thows a CPD0213 ("Value of MAXPOS parameter less than number of required parameters.") exception.

Is there a way to get around that, other than moving the required parameter check into the program (and losing the usual consequences of omitting a required parameter)?
