Actually I think it's more for HA (High Availability) situations. Let's
say you have a file that has a trigger on it that writes to a log file,
faxes out a PO or whatever. And that trigger runs on your "source"
machine. Now your HA software replicates the data over to your "target"
machine. Do you want the trigger to fire off twice; once on the source
and once on the target? No. The log file would get updated twice, once
by the HA software and once by the trigger. And your vendor would be
happy to ship and bill you for twice the product from dual PO's. So most
reputable HA software disables the triggers on the "target" machine.

When you do a switch it disables the triggers on the "source" and enables
them on the "target". Beats having a log somewhere of what needs to be
disabled and enabled.
