Good point Scott...
I'm sure there are people integral to COMMON that are also pretty involved
with some of these other conferences. What's fundamentally different about
the other conferences that make them more economically viable? It seems
like the real way to keep COMMON in the air would be to make those types of
changes, rather than potentially alienate the speakers and other 'talent'!

Hi Jeff,
Scott, the sad truth we found is that our practices are very unusual
for the type of organization we are. That coupled with the fact that
without these changes we will become insolvent as Randy and Dan
showed made for hard choices.
Over the last several years, I've found myself attending around 6
conferences each year. With the exception of COMMON, every other
conference I participate in covers *all* (not just a fraction) of my
expenses, and also *pays* me to be there.
And they seem to be getting by without losing money.
I'm getting the feeling that this thread on Midrange-L is becoming
counter-productive, so I'm going to fall silent. If there's anything
that I can do to help, please let me know.
