I agree - thread too long - so this is my last. A smaller conference is a different economic model. As mentioned, by cutting rooms needed, we will fit in much more economical spaces. Who knows, maybe Orlando will sell out!

The fact is, we just can't. There isn't anything as big as the volunteer travel and housing we can cut. Travel was always real money, but it used to be rooms were somewhat free - given by the hotel for booking so many. Those days are gone and there simply isn't the money anymore.

If you would look into doing some webinars, it would help. Perhaps even a seminar in your area. Thanks!

Subject: Re: COMMON - the week's over...

Hi Jeff,

Scott, the sad truth we found is that our practices are very unusual
for the type of organization we are. That coupled with the fact that
without these changes we will become insolvent as Randy and Dan
showed made for hard choices.

Over the last several years, I've found myself attending around 6
conferences each year. With the exception of COMMON, every other
conference I participate in covers *all* (not just a fraction) of my
expenses, and also *pays* me to be there.

And they seem to be getting by without losing money.

I'm getting the feeling that this thread on Midrange-L is becoming
counter-productive, so I'm going to fall silent. If there's anything
that I can do to help, please let me know.
