Concurrency is a big reason - with IBM already looking at the next release, don't expect anything new to be PTF'ed back to V5R4.

If you are considering (or even if you are already using) external storage, you want V6R1. The release allows you access to the faster IOP-less fiber cards, giving you better performance and less real estate in your racks because of the lack of IOPs and potentially fewer cards needed for the same load.

You'll also have a choice of Copy Services Toolkit (which is available under V5R4) or PowerHA (which is not) to manage your storage if you are doing things like hardware replication (GlobalMirror or MetroMirror) or Flash Copy.

Another nice new feature that I've yet to try out is the ability to put image catalogs into the NSF. This means you could create one image catalog directory for say cumulative PTFs and share the one copy with multiple LPARs instead of having to copy all those image files from one system to another.

Subject: Reasons to Upgrade to V6R1

I am putting together a document on why we should upgrade to V6R1.

Can anyone list some good reasons to upgrade to V6R1 from V5R4?

Are there any new features that you have found useful?

Links to where some of this is listed?

I do not need reasons like - to stay current on the operating system,
etc, just new functionality & features available at V6R1.

Thanks.
