Is it because 937 is used instead of 37 when the double-byte version of
i5/OS (system value QIGC = 1) is installed?

Yes.

You get 937 because it is the default related CCSID for 37 when Encoding Scheme 1301 ( Mixed-byte EBCDIC) is used.

Your job is (probably) using 37 even though QCCSID is set to 65535 (fix that) because:
a) You've set the job CCSID from the user profile
b) The system is using the job default CCSID derived from the language ID

My memory tells me there is a way to code DDS so it compiles character fields as A on SBCS systems and O on DBCS systems. I cannot recall whether that is by leaving the Data Type blank (which would cause the system to use A or O as appropriate) or by coding O (which would cause the system to "magically" convert to A on SBCS systems. Given that all versions of OS/400 (since I think VRM520) are DBCS- capable it's a moot point anyway.

Simon Coulter.
