Rob,

Thanks for the reply.

The machine is HMC controlled.

I would do concurrent maintenance, but as far a I can tell, this 2844
controls the load source disks (and _all_ the disks) as well. SST
won't let me power it down. It shows up in iNav All Hardware view as
Resource;

Cmb01 - Type-Model 2844-001 S/n 062
Lin03 Comm Adapter
Ctl01 Workstation Controller (this can and will go away when we change over)
Dc01 Storage Controller
Dd002 Disk Unit
Dd001 Disk Unit
Dd003 Disk Unit
Opt01 Optical Storage Unit
Tap01 Tape Unit (internal - not the one I am trying to add)
D01 Device Services
Dd004 Disk Unit

In talking with the boss, this card/cable/Drive combo was working on
an 820 before it was upgraded to a 525. He was told that the 520 that
is now powering portions of the web (and will do all web serving as
soon as I get it up to V5R4) would be able to utilize this drive. I
believe that it is a matter of configuring the cards correctly to get
this accomplished.

What we don't know is if they are in the same bus. For example if you put
the 2844 in slot 3 and the 573E in slot 4 and the 2749 in slot 5 and slot
5 happens to be on the next bus it won't know about the 2844.
What's a 573E?
What slots on what unit are these cards in?
Is this machine HMC controlled?
And you actually power off the machine to remove and add cards? I do that
live, via concurrent maintenance in STRSST.
