Just in case it is software and not hardware.

Did you try doing the backup to the FTP Server or an USB stick? I
never burn DVDs, except when upgrading the release. Save Upgrade Data
is not required for 7.3.1 to 7.3.2, and Save Critical Data supports
USB Sticks and FTP.
