Josh,

Yes it works well with System i. I use it all the time but the applications that use it tend to be written in Java. I thought about putting a few RPG wrappers over the the java code which would make it easier to use from an RPG program but my list grows longer every day and I haven't gotten to it.

All you need to connect is the jt400.jar in your classpath and the correct connection parameters. iReports makes it all very easy and then you would need to make the Java calls to run it.

Vern,

Have you been able to make Jasper Reports work with the System I? I have tried a couple of times, but have never been able to succesfully connect. I've always started with iReport instead of using Jasper Reports directly.

How about an idea from left field? There's an open source solution called Jasper Reports - Java-based, I think. It's become quite popular - we are embedding it in some of our new products. Not sure how it would work with VB, but there is a designer piece, too. http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/ will get you started, perhaps. Oh, I did see that there is a drill down piece that goes along with it.

We are looking for a query/drill down/reporting tool. Preferably one that lives on the iSeries with an interface to VB.

On our list currently:

NGS
Crystal Reports
