Son of a gun! It was indeed a coincidence. The drive in slot six just
happened to be DOA. I put in a new drive, and it now shows up as
operational in SST. I suppose I should add it to the RAID set before I
start my PTF apply.

And it looks like I'm done for the day, or at least the morning. Based on
current progress, it may take up to three hours to add the new disk to the
existing RAID set, whereas it took only about 90 minutes to set up the
initial RAID set for the other five disks. Some of this may be due to the
fact that, like an idiot, I didn't drop the system into restricted state.
But in any event, I think the powers that be are making sure I don't touch
anything else for a while <grin>.
