Hello Jim,

One option would be to write SQL DTS packages to transfer data from the
iSeries.

Another would be to write VB app code to do read from iSeries and write
to SQL.

On the high end you could purchase a replication tool to replicate the
data. Check out the various HA providers.

We also have an option: RPG2SQL if you want to write RPG code to
directly update the SQL tables from the iSeries.

Those are the major choices I am aware of.

Hope this helps.

subject: MS SQL Server and iSeries native database

I am looking for well tested low maint options for a native homegrown
mfg database (hundreds of files) to "feed" an executive management
system
on a MS SQL Server. They prefer "near real time(within reason)", not
nightly download. Many files are already triggered and could be modified
to update summary files.
Need some way of handling that either the iSeries or the MS Server may
go offline for a while and do not want manual intervention to be
required.
Would not like to reinvent the wheel.
Can it be as simple as having the SQL Server pgms just connect & read
files on the system i?
